The New cannabis user!!!! It's the AARP crowd!

Believe it of not, but after working in a dispensary for over 6 years now, I can without a doubt declare that the largest percentage of new users are the AARP crowd!
Our little old grammas and grandpa's are wanting to toss their prescribed drugs out the window and are willing to give cannabis a try.
Thank Dr. Gutpa for coming out wit Weeds, 1,2 and 3 on CNN and do these three documentaries on the benefits of using cannabis. I really think cannabis is becoming more and more acceptable, and when people are talking about it on TV, why not give it a try!
Well, I hope people's reason's for trying cannabis have a little more to do with wanting help with their personal issues than it's the newest fad, but honestly whatever it takes to get cannabis to be accepted is the real goal. When children can try it and see if cannabis reduce their debilitating seizures? Or other chronic issues. Can concentrated amounts of cannabis oil cure cancer? Help people win the battles of PSTD?
So as cannabis becomes legal in more states, and more states start allowing cannabis to legally be used as a medicine the interest in "will cannabis work for me?" blossoms. And with a smile on my face, I am proud when I get to say "No, It's not the kids I serve, It our AARPers!" They keep us in business, they are our real business! Them and women over the age of 40, they are the next up and comers in the using of cannabis. They are finding that cannabis is what they really need to help their medical issues and gets them through the day. I hear more and more patients say, " I would rather use cannabis than take a pill." or "I hate the side affect that prescribed medicine causes me."
And cannabis is an all in one kind of medicine. You can use it for nausea, and to increase appetite.  For pain and to decrease muscle spasms. It can be used for insomnia, and then used for uplifting qualities that help with depression and PTSD.
I feel our older generations are wiser, know more and therefore where some would think they would want to try cannabis, it's actually the opposite. Our older generation are actually shocking me a little and coming in by the masses. They may seem shy to begin with, but we are big talkers at our dispensary and so getting them as excited about trying cannabis is easy. And with the industry blossoming with the latest and greatest of vaper pens, pre filled cartridges, cannabis consumption is just getting more and more convenient and is selling like hot cakes!
So when you think to yourself, (If you think this way) that all these cannabis dispensaries, or having dispensaries open where you live are going to corrupt our children, Please take it from a 6+ year bud tender, your teens get there cannabis from their friends and (sorry) but their parents stash. Not trying to sneak into a dispensary. It's your parents and your kids grandparents!
Along with the normal talks about not wanting to use pills for sleep and pain our AARP crowd talks a lot about how  they use cannabis as a anti-depressant. A creativity drug. Some say they use to write, and draw and dance. Patients even have discussed how using cannabis helps their libido and is especially fun when your partner is willing to try it too.
So whether you are a true believer of cannabis or a skeptic and anti cannabis person, cannabis use is growing. More and more people are willing to give it a try.
And to my surprise it's our older wiser generation.
So the next time you smell the sweetness of the green look twice, it may be your older neighbor lady not the teenage kid next door!

we need cannabis oil to keep ANGELIONESS ALIVE!!!! ANYONE ABLE TO HELP???

I work with dying cancer patients all the time. I have even befriended them, and help some personal friends try and use cannabis oil to cure themselves from cancer. I have been blessed to actually be able to be successful and help some people remain cancer free still. But it's a struggle, the large amounts of cannabis oil that cancer patients need is costly and while everyone seems to cheer them on, there isn't a place to go and get your "free oil" to save your life.
Today I am especially upset about a friend I will call Angelioness! She has been dying kind of cancer for what seem like almost 2 years now and consumes as much oil as she can afford. I believe she must be up to about 300+ grams of oil by now, and sadly because we cannot keep her using cannabis oil regularly and in my opinion more often and more of it, I see that her pain is increasing and death seems closer than not.
She is a true cannabis believer/warrior, and I just wish somehow, somewhere, someone would give her all the oil her needs. People have helped her, and our dispensaries helps everyway we can, but it's still not FREE. and when you are on hospice and there is no way to work, how to do pay for this miracle oil?
I feel lost, I have helped her and her family anyway I can, but I also can't hand over my personal medicine and go without. And may people out in the industry are trying to make it themselves from paycheck to paycheck that "FREE medicine for all those in need" doesn't exist not even for children of those on their death beds.
If you are looking at cannabis as an option to help you or your loved ones know it's super expensive and for those who need RSO or concentrated cannabis oil, it could be in the thousands of dollars.
I love cannabis oil, I know it can help and even for some cure their cancer.
Our angelioness, as proven without a doubt that when doctors said she only had months to live, they were WRONG. and that with cannabis oil she has beat all the odds.
I know she is in so much pain, and struggles to continue the fight and struggles to find the funds to continue the oil she needs to stay alive.
If you are reading this, and you have funds to donate, or oil to help. Or even high quality organic cannabis to make her medicine and want to HELP SOME!!!
PLEASE CONTACT US!!! Here comment below. write my email potcandies@yahoo.com
We are desperate, and time is sadly winning the battle.
IT MAKES ME SO MAD, THAT NOT MORE PEOPLE CAN'T HELP!
If you can help, in anyway by sharing this blog entry, to a donation, TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE.
I wish that Stanford or UCSF wanted to study how amazing it is that cannabis has been keeping her alive this whole time. and without cannabis oil we are all at a loss.
She is too sick now to contact dispensaries, and shout out to the world that she believes her cannabis oil has and is keeping her alive. But she needs more. How can we help her?
anyone? please?

Dabs, waxs, shatter, what happend to cannabis bud?

While cannabis buds or flowers are still the main way people consume cannabis!
And yes, more people are choosing to consuming cannabis by eating it, drinking it, or rubbing it on to help with aches and pains.
But what is everyone talking about when saying "dabbing?"
I have a really simple non scientific explanation that I really like using with new cannabis patients (at the dispensary I work at.)
I take out some cannabis buds and I explain it like this (since our dispensary is awesome and test our flowers for mold, pesticides etc. and does a cannabinoid profile giving patients the THC and CBD percentages too)
So I explain that Cannabis buds usually test between about 7%THC-as high as 35% THC. and we then burn up the rest of the bud.
Next I show them the Kief (the tricomes in powder form) and hashish (in pressed form) or made from water extraction (those tricome concentrates) typically test around 20%THC to 70+% THC. I explain that with kief, and hash the product are not made with solvents.
Then there is concentrates aka: dabs, oils, waxes, shatter, crumble, etc....
The names seem to have a lot to do with what it looks like. Is its earwaxy? Yes, there is a cannabis concentrate called earwax. But concentrated cannabis aka dabs or vaping can test with THC ranging from 25+% THC to 90+% THC. There is only the best of the best left all the lovely cannabinoids and usually high amounts of THC. So a little goes a long way, and "a little DaB will do!"
However, concentrated cannabis comes at a great risk, in that much of it is made with solvents like explosive butane. Different kinds of alcohol that can be flammable. But there are also safer, healthier ways that the cannabis community is learning to make our coveted Dabs!! Like with Co2, or Oxygen and Nitrogen. Of course people are learning how to make cleaner and safer products for our patients. When I can take a couple of draws off my vape pen, with 87% Sour Diesel it isn't but a few minutes until my pains are lessened and my head is clear and ready to get started. Concentrated cannabis  allows me not to stink like when I smoke the cannabis flower. and a little goes a long way in that a couple of puff off my lovely vaper globe and I am set.
My lungs are not exhaling smoke, with C02 extraction only the best and the cleanest cannabis is left behind and I actually notice that I don't cough of that stoner's flem I use to.
So whether you run into concentrated cannabis and they call it Dabs, or was, or shatter or goo, give it a try. Remember vaping expands differently in your lungs (almost like you can't feel your lungs are full) so start off with smaller puffs till you find what amount is best for you.
More on which dab device is best for your fine cannabis concentrates on the next edition of
The cannabis can generation!

I am Now a legal Medicinal marijuana Patient. So now what do I do?: IT'S A WHOLE NEW WORLD!!! when it comes to medical...: For many people, especially those new medical cannabis patients, some have "tried" cannabis many moons ago, back in the day, and t...

New cannabis patients! WHY Not try now? With FDA Aprroval etc.. it could be years for pure US LEGALIZATION.

So if you don't already know this, you should know it now that there are not exact perceptions or exact recommendations on how much cannabis one should use. Especially because there are so many different ways to use cannabis: smoke, vape, eat, drink, rub it on. The instructions and doses are very individualized. It's not like take one pill very 4-6 hours for pain. Cannabis in my opinion is a truly personal medicine and your dose has to be discovered and determined by you. The cannabis community has tried to come up with industry standards for how much edibles people should consume per dose, but it varies from 15-30 mg per person. I think that is a pretty big range and I personally have seen patients need much less for their needs (more like 7.5 mg when eating it)
So now that I have confused you, that there isn't one set dose, I hopefully have not scared you away from trying cannabis as your medicine (remember to just start off small, and work up from there)
Before I go on, I want to add this very important part about cannabis, to date not one person has actually died from the over consumption of cannabis. There are myths and rumors, but truly not one proven case that any has died from the over use of cannabis. Over medicating can be uncomfortable and even worse feel like you are dying. But you are not dying, you are paranoid. Too much cannabis can have serious feeling symptoms, but in truth telling your self you have over medicated, try and breathe and sleep if you can and tomorrow you will feel completely different.
In addition to that, I recently watched Weed #3 with Dr. Gupta, and scientist are studying in eupore that cannabis does not affect the neurotransmitters in the brain stem unlike other drugs where it does cause the damage that other drugs can cause, thus why cannabis has not killed anyone. It doesn't damage the brain like other drugs, in fact new studies are saying it can help reproduce and regrow damaged brain cells from the beneficial cannabinoids in cannabis.
In the 6 + years I have worked in the dispensary helping patients directly, I have learned that because patients are sick of the side affects of the medicines they are being prescribed, and often they don't work, or the side affects are worse that the disease itself, people are not waiting for long term studies on the negative affects of using cannabis. I keep calling this the cannabis can generation, It is! People are stepping out of their comfort zones and trying cannabis for all kinds of issues. Pain, seizures, PTSD, MS, Crone disease, migraine and much much more.
I am amazed that over the last oh 2 years I have seen a jump in brand new cannabis patients. They are not going to wait for legalization, they want to try cannabis for medicinal purposes and are going to doctors willing to recommend they try it.
Remember I will go into more specific blogs on how to use cannabis, since there are so many different ways that it can be affective, so keep reading my blog, (even follow it) and I promise to continue to cover as many topics of cannabis that I can write about.
If you think cannabis is bull crap, and will not work for you, I am sure like other medicines it WONT. But if you are tired of your pain pills, or living with spasms, no appetite or not sleeping, having PTSD, please think about giving cannabis a try. I talk with patients everyday on how cannabis has changed their lives, relationships and attitude of life.
Yes there are those so called "stoners" that say they just get high to get high. But upon longer conversations, I find a common ground and we can develop the reason they may use cannabis is to escape from past experiences that caused them harm. PTSD! Some reading this is saying that is just addiction, well maybe, but maybe not. If cannabis can help your mind escape the over whelming traumas that have occurred, and trauma to the point, you are no longer living, loving caring about anything. But cannabis, can put those traumas' out of point of view, causing side affects of euphoria, enlightment, happiness, calmness.  Which would you choose.
Yes, there are many skeptics on cannabis, and drugs and why we use them. I see cannabis as a way that can help people in so many different ways its incredible.
Please post questions, comments, and subjects you want written about. if I can't write about it myself, I will go out and find another article and share it with you. With full credit to the blogger, author of course.

step out of the cannabis closet, and try going GREEN!

Marijuana Phytotherapy: How to Make Cannabis Whole Plant Resin
CANNABIS CULTURE - Learn to extract cannabis resins that could potentially help fight off illnesses like cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

Herb the HerbalistYou have probably heard of the "major cancer epidemic" going on today, where it is estimated that "one in every two men" and "one in every three women" get cancer in their lifetimes. If not, please see 10:30 of this clip from the film The Corporation. This cancer-rate estimate came before the Fukushima nuclear accident that is currently dumping radiation all over the world.
Perhaps you have heard of cannabis's reputation as a tumor-shrinking medicine? Apparently the US Government knew this back in 1974 and kept it secret.
Have you seen the US patents on cannabis? This is just one of thousands.
There are many videos on YouTube regarding cannabis's tumor-shrinking powers and rapid healing properties. Two of the best are What if Cannabis Cured Cancer and Run From The Cure.
But the latest wave of cancer-related cannabis videos involves the juicing of raw cannabis leaves and buds. This method allows a person to consume much greater amounts of the medicinal ingredients in a juice form than they could if they were just eating raw cannabis leaves or buds (which are hard to swallow and digest due to the scratchy texture).
We all have an Endo-Cannabinoid System (ECS) in our bodies. That system regulates our health and well-being.
When a human being reaches mid-life, the inflammatory arm of the immune system takes on characteristics of an autoimmune disorder for which
the Conditionally Essential Cannabinoid Acids (CECAs) provide unique prophylactic and therapeutic relief.
Cannabinoids effect on diabetes, cancer, autoimmune disorders and ischemic conditions qualify them for recognition as Essential Cannabinoid Acids across the entire life span. Cannabis is a uniquely functional food and if used in its natural state daily, provides more than just nutritional benefits. Smoking does help reduce the symptoms of many conditions but in general it does not work on a curative level like oral consumption does.
One of the benefits of juicing raw cannabis is that, if you manage to avoid heating the cannabis, it isn't psychoactive. This proves cannabis is, at heart, a vegetable, and in it's best form a preventative medicine. Try to consume the juice 3-5 times per day (the metaphor is like a deer grazes). The cannabinoids do their job in the body in about 15 minutes, so supplementing your Endo Cannabinoid System (ECS) all day would be the most ideal treatment program for all sorts of illness and is good for people who want to get rid of their tumors as fast as possible.
If you happen to be a cannabis grower or know a cannabis grower who can provide you with raw plant material, the videos LEAF: The Health Benefits of Juicing Raw Cannabis and The Power of Raw Cannabis may be some use to you.
If you don't grow or know any growers and only have access to the dry cannabis buds, try this recipe for a buds-only treatment.
Suggested treatment for someone with cancer is 6 ounces or more. This recipe is for 3 ounces.
  • Grind/crush 3 ounces of well-dried top-quality cannabis buds
  • Put cannabis in 20 liters of cold water and stir for 15 minutes
  • Pour through a strainer or the largest micron size of bubble bag - don't throw out the buds, stems and leaves yet!
  • Let mixture settle 15-30 min. The crystal/trichomes/hash/kief will fall down and settle on the bottom
  • Pour/Siphon the water into another pot, leaving the kief mixture behind. Once you pour out most of the water (to about 1/2 inch from the bottom) pour out kief mixture and set aside
  • Boil down the water you poured out on mid temperature (7) on the stove burner
  • Keep an eye on the water as it reduces and scrape and stir in the oils that form around the sides of the pot.
  • Repeat the process with another 20 liters of cold water for a second wash.
  • Keep boiling it down to a black, sticky substance - slowly reducing the temp as the water evaporates - don't burn it. (As the mixture thickens add it to the final reduction sauce pan)
  • Take the second batch of water and boil it down too. (I use a separate sauce pan to do the final lower temp reduction in.)
  • Put the left over cannabis in another pot with water and boil it too, several times. Add the water to the final reduction pan when it becomes thick like a milky tea.
  • Now add the kief mixture you had set aside to the black, sticky pot-water reductions, slowly bringing the temperature down. As the water evaporates take it off the heat and put it back on, that helps to not to burn the resin. The end result is something that looks like very sticky black hash.
This cannabis resin is water-soluble and can be added back into water to treat burns and heal wounds and be added to teas.
The normal dose for most people is 1/2 the size of a single grain of rice, 3-5 times per day. Slowly increase your dose when you become used to the medicine by 1/2 rice-size increments until you are taking about a gram a day. If you start to experience an uncomfortable "high" then dial back on the dose untill you have a comfortable platform to move to the next increase in doseage. The point is to be taking as much of this as your body is able to tolerate. You cannot die of overdose, but you might get paranoid and feel like you're going to die if you take too much. Start small and slowly build your way up to a larger dose.

It's a whole new world when it comes to cannabis! It's not "that POT" anymore

For many people, especially those new medical cannabis patients, some have "tried" cannabis many moons ago, back in the day, and then haven't used it since. While I do see other people who never wanted to "touch the stuff" but now see it and value it as a medicine and an option to help them feel better.
So what does a new patient need to know? It is going to take many blogs to get through all the "how to's" there are. But I want to start with the basics and have advanced information in future blogs.
Getting A DOCTOR RECOMMENDATIONS is your first step in  being a legal Marijuana patient. Many states now offers legal medical cannabis use. You will have to check to requirements and regulations for your state. Google it! To find out how your state issues recommendations for use.
Here in California, patients can asked their primary care doctor, or find a doctor locally that focuses on  helping marijuana patients get recommendations. These doctors do require doctor's notes to verify your need to use marijuana as a medicine. Once you have your valid recommendation, the next step is  to decide how you want to use your cannabis (see 1st blog) for this blog we are going to focus on SMOKING cannabis for medicine and what you need to know to get started.

INDICA ~vs~ SATIVA  and don't forget the Hybrids!
Some of You are already saying, "what?" "I have to know a kind?"  Don't worry!!!  This site will help you.
There are various kinds of cannabis, and unfortunately because of its legal status in our country we cannot study it, to say this specific kind of cannabis will be exactly what you need. The cannabis community themselves though is working on gathering  specific information on each strain, but how cannabis will work for you personally and which type will work is going to be trial and error process. Be patient, and keep trying new strains! Keeping a little note book/ journal to keep track of the medicines you try and what works and what didn't work help many patient learn and keep track of their medicine and affects.
Let's start with there are several KINDS of cannabis that a patient can use.

Sativa:
Typically sativa's are known for it's euphoric and uplifting properties. Many patients find sativa's elevate their moods, it can bring on creativity and helps some patients with depression as well. I also would like to note, that many patients who are in chronic pain also find sativa's to be helpful during the daytime to relieve pain, and not make them sleepy like Indica's tend to do. Another point that many patient have noted is that some sativa's can be a little strong for first time users causing an elevated pulse feeling, expressed as "makes me feel like my heart is racing" for those patients we are going to talk later about Hybrid strains (crossed strains between indica and sativa) below.

Indica:
Most Inidca's give patients the deep feeling of relaxation, pain relief and can definitely help those with insomnia as well.  Indica plants have dark wide shade leaves and grow more short and stalky than sativas. Patent's with severe medical issues have noted that the pure Indica strains help relief their chronic symptoms. If you are a patient in pain, suffer from muscle spasms or cannot sleep please give Indica cannabis a try. Often known as " couch lock" in cannabis slang, Indica strains can with very small amounts give you that "knocked out" feeling. So use a little to begin with before over medicating.

Hybrids:
Yes, we have come along was in producing numerous strains of cannabis to help patients with their wide array of aliments. So over the years Hybrid strains have been developed (crossing Indica's with sativa strains) give patients the benefits of both Indica and Sativa properties. There are growing reason that cannabis genetics has been developed, but also hybrids give patients the "best of both worlds" kinds of medicines to help relieve their symptoms. If as a new patient you find, you have tried a sativa for anxiety, but it makes you feel a little to "speedy" try a hybrid the next time and see if having alittle of both will help balance you better.
I know this is a lot of information. But as a new cannabis patient I am sure you have already discovered that many doctor can recommend the cannabis to you, but cannot tell you or won't tell you how to use it, or even where to get it.  So new cannabis patient often feel alone, and without much information to get started with. So finding a  dispensary (hopefully) you are in California or a legal medical state that has store front dispensaries that can not only provide but teach you about the various strains of cannabis but how to use them.
For those who do not have dispensaries and still are trying to use cannabis for medicinal use, if possible try and find out what kind of cannabis you are getting. Not just "its pot" but the name. If the place you are getting you medicine from can even tell you what it is called the Internet is a great resource for information on cannabis strains and you may be able to find out what it is just by googling it!
SO WHAT EXACTLY DO I NEED TO GET STARTED?
For this entry we are just discussing to SMOKING IT.
So you need some cannabis, a device to smoke it and a way to light it.
Not so hard, right? Yes, I know its not quiet that simple. But my best advice is to keep it simple.
Don't go out and spend lots of money on pipes, water pipes, vaporizers until you know this is the method that will work for you. Unfortunately, like everything shops that carry pipe mark up items a lot so always ask for a medicinal marijuana discount and don't spend very much to get started. Another side note if not in California, often in so called head shops, smoke shops etc... it is still illegal to call paraphernalia by its name. Bong for example, you have to ask for a "water pipe" Most people in these shops especially in California, are becoming more comfortable answering questions. Don't be afraid to ask, just know some place you may need to speak in code!
If you want to smoke it rolled up in paper like the good old days, but cannot roll a joint. Ask the local head shop about a rolling machine that basically does it all for you.
If you want a good pipe of bong those kind of stores can be found at local head shops. In California, some dispensaries (not where I work) but in other cities and counties dispensaries can sell to patients the devices they need to get started.
 a new patient.
This is just the start of information that I will be blogging about. And please ask any questions you may have. Thank You for trying cannabis as an alternative medicine than all the pharmaceuticals we are prescribed.
I am so glad to see people giving this gift a chance!

The potential Health benefits of treating cannabis like a vegetable. By Donald Abrams

Juicing Cannabis: The Potential Health Benefits of Treating Cannabis Like a Vegetable
Donald Abrams is chief of Hematology Oncology, at San Francisco General Hospital, and a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. He does research on the applications of medical cannabis, and has become an advocate as a result.
Abrams stated, “If cannabis were discovered in an Amazon rainforest today, people would be clambering to make as much use as they could of all of the potential benefits of the plant. Unfortunately, it carries with it a long history of being a persecuted plant.”
Abrams appears in the short film that accompanies this article. The film, ’Leaf’, provides some unique insight into the benefits of ingesting medical cannabis in its raw form and introduces the newest technique for doing so, juicing. Pressed vegetable juices are very popular in America right now, so it’s no surprise that someone would eventually look into the benefits of juicing cannabis as well. In fact, some people have even suggested that cannabis should be considered and classified as a vegetable.
Vegetables are typically defined as a “herbaceous plant grown for an edible part, usually eaten as part of a meal.” This typically refers to the leaf, stem, flower, or root of a plant. In 1967, the meaning of “vegetable,” was specified to mean, “Plant cultivated for food, edible herb or root.” Some vegetables may be eaten raw, and others must be cooked in order to be edible. When certain fruits and vegetables are heated, they lose tons of beneficial enzymes and nutrients. Cannabis is no different.

The Health Benefits of Juicing Cannabis

Cannabis preparation techniques are based on what benefits you seek from the plant. By juicing the cannabis, you receive most of the medical benefits of the plant without the “high”. Cannabis in its raw form is still psychoactive, just not like the medicating effects you are used to from smoking or eating an edible. In fact, he claims that achieving the psychoactive effects from cannabis is purely a human aspect of the plant that, “Has nothing to do with the 34 million years of evolution the plant has.” Courtney is a dietary raw cannabis specialist, and a strong believer in the plants healing powers.
Dr. William L. Courtney claims, “It (cannabis) has captured these molecules that help our bodies regulatory system be more effective. The bottom line is it’s a dietary essential that helps all 210 cell types function more effectively. I don’t even refer to it as medicine anymore, strictly as a dietary essential.”
While Courtney understands that smoked cannabis can in fact be used as a medicinal therapy, he believes that in its best form, raw, it is a preventative. He claims cannabis is the “most important vegetable on the planet” and that it can assist the function of your immune system, provide anti-inflammatory benefits, and improve bone metabolism and neural function. Cannabis is even capable of inhibiting cancer cell growth according to the doc; the list could go on and on.
According to the doctor, when you cook or smoke cannabis you are actually walking away from 99% of the benefits cannabis provides. Not to worry, in its raw form the plant contains THCa (Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) and CBDa (Cannabidiol Acid), which must be heated in order to produce THC and CBD.
Only when you decarboxylate THCa, turning it into THC, does it cause psychoactive effects or the ‘high’ you may be used to when smoking cannabis. Additionally, the body is able to tolerate larger dosages of cannabinoids when cannabis is consumed in the raw form. This is because when you smoke cannabis, the THC actually acts as a CB1 receptor agonist and your body can only absorb about 10 mg at a time.
Only when you decarboxylate THCa, turning it into THC, does it cause psychoactive effects or the ‘high’ you may be used to when smoking cannabis.
The doctor recommends vaporizing to achieve the powerful anti-oxidant, anti-emetic and metabolism boosting CB1 receptor agonist activity of THC. Courtney suggests, “If you heat the plant, you will decarboxylate THC-acid and you will get ‘high’. You’ll get your 10mg (of THC). If you don’t heat it, you can go up to five or six hundred milligrams, use it as a dietary cannabis and push it up to the anti-oxidant and neuro-protective levels which come into play at hundreds of milligrams. It is this dramatic increase in dose from 10 mg of psychoactive THC to the 500 mg – 1,000 mg of non-psychoactive THCA, CBDA, and CBGA that comprises the primary difference between traditional ‘MedicalMarijuana’ and Alternative Cannabinoid Dietary Cannabis.”
The FDA has actually approved a tolerable CBD dose of 600 mg/day as a new investigative drug. This makes the medical potential of drinking the juice containing 600mg of CBDA, far greater than when you heat the cannabis. Considering CBD percentages are typically below 1% in most strains, it would be physically impossible to smoke enough in one day to ingest a 600mg dosage of CBD.

Two-Way Communication With Nerve Cells

An article written in the December 2004 issue of Scientific American was about a molecule in cannabis that could communicate two-ways with nerve cells. They explained that one-way traffic to nerves is the main cause of inflammation in the body. Immune cells are being continuously attacked, and nothing is communicating with the nerves to tell them to calm down. When you add cannabinoids, a two-way communication is made possible, and inflammation is reduced. The cannabinoids work to prevent, or fight symptoms by providing nerves with this two-way communication.

Ethan Russo is a senior medical adviser to GW Pharmaceuticals, a British company that produces a THC mouth spray called, Sativex. In the mid-‘90s, Russo took a sabbatical in Peru after leaving his job at a neurology practice that he believed, was prescribing medicine with toxic side effects. Upon his return he claimed that marijuana holds the “greatest potential of any medicinal plant.”
A quote from Russo, “CBD works on receptors, and as it turns out, we have cannabinoids in our bodies, endogenous cannabinoids, that turn out to be very effective at regulating immune functions, nerve functions, and bone functions. The endogenous cannabinoid system acts as a modulator in fine-tuning a lot of these systems, and if something is deranged biochemically in a person’s body, it may well be that a cannabinoid system can bring things back into balance.”
Russo suggests that people who do not naturally produce the necessary amount of cannabinoids may be more susceptible to illnesses such as irritable bowel syndrome, glaucoma and migraines. The girl from the movie below, Kristen Peskuski, tells her incredible story of how she used juicing cannabis to treat what she is calling, “endogenous cannabinoid deficiency disorder.” Kristin suffered from a number of conditions that include lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, hypoglycemia, anemia, chronic sinusitis, chronic bacterial infections, and other serious ailments before she started juicing cannabis.

The interesting thing about Kristen’s story is that smoking marijuana didn’t do nearly as much for her as juicing. Before she began juicing, Kristen would smoke a quarter of an ounce of cannabis a day along with ingesting many edibles and concentrates. Now she is off all antibiotics, and uses only cannabis juice to aid all of her ailments. Her OBGYN believes that cannabis may have even assisted her through her pregnancy; which was originally thought to be impossible because of her history with endometriosis.

Tips & Suggestions for Juicing Cannabis

Now we know all this is very exciting, but do not go throwing your dispensary buds in the juicer thinking your about to make a magic healing potion. Here is a list of recommendations from Dr. Courtney on juicing raw cannabis:
  • When it comes to juicing, as with any vegetable, the fresher the better.
  • Cannabis that has been dried and prepared for smoking is not suitable for juicing.
  • Dr. Courtney recommends that patients juice 15 leaves, and 2 large (2 to 4 inches long) raw buds per day.
  • Raw buds are flowers harvested when the THC glands are clear rather than amber.
  • It is recommended that you mix in another vegetable juice to cut the bitterness of the raw cannabis.
  • A popular choice is carrot juice, and a ratio of 1 part cannabis juice to 10 parts carrot juice is a good rule of thumb.
  • Split the drink into 3 parts and drink with each meal, or store for up to 3 days in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator.
Happy Juicing! Let us know about your own personal juicing experiences. This is a very new and exciting topic we will most definitely be exploring later on. If anyone is currently experimenting with juicing cannabis we would love to hear about your experiences. Please message us with your stories. #StayMedicated

The"new Cure"cannabis paste What is that?

The "New cure" cannabis paste! WHAT IS THAT???

I have had the blessing to work in the cannabis community for almost 10 years now.
I started with growing my own medicine and being blessed to provide some extra products to help
other patients in our collective. From growing my own medicine, I then was given my next blessing a job a my local dispensary, where I still work today.
Over the years I have watched cannabis bloom into a legitimate economy.
And during this time, I have been able to create, play, develop was to use cannabis beyond smoking it.
Today I want to blog about Cannabis paste.
I have my first batch slowing cooking on my stove top as we speak.
It seems that for the last oh 2-3 years now, it seems to me, it's all about RSO ~Rick Simpson Oil~
Long and the short, is that Rick Simpson is a Man, who discovered for his own personal melanoma cancer that concentrated amount of cannabis oil cured his cancer. I have used RSO, I teach others to use it and YES! I have tried to making small batches (out of Olive oil due to my Fear of Blowing up with Butane) The issue's with RSO are Mostly how dangerous it can be to make it, but also now new findings are saying the chemicals used to make the RSO oil, can potentially be stripping out the vital Cannabinoids cannabis contains.
For Years, I have wondered "why change a perfect plant?, why isolate certain cannabinoids?"
So, after reading an article about this "new cure" aka cannabis paste, which the company who is making this product, speaks about cannabis paste being made and used for 2000 years! So, Not so a "New cure" in my book but, It is definitely worth making, trying and blogging about!
CANNABIS PASTE!
It's amazing simple to make! and the real benefit is you don't waste any of the plant matter, or leave any beneficial cannabinoids to become trash. So if you start with 1 pound of cannabis, you will still have 1 pound of PASTE left!! Unlike Cannabis oil AKA RSO where that pound turns into about 60-90 grams so about (2-3 ounces total)
Cannabis Past Instructions on making:
Take 2 oz. coconut Oil, take 2 oz. food grade vegetable glycerin and 1/2 oz Organic Cannabis BUD!
(Not shake! but big Buds that you will grind into a fine powder, I recommend a coffee grinder just for your cannabis)
What kind of cannabis?
That is up to you really! Today I am making a 50/50 THC:CBD BLEND. Ultimately I want to be able to design specific ratios of THC to CBD to make sure I am getting at least both those cannabinoids. I wish I could tell you like here in California to just go down to your local dispensary and ask for some High CBD strains of cannabis, but I have researched that so many legal medical marijuana states do not have high CBD cannabis strains to offer their patients. Sadly for those patients who are children, and getting as little THC as possible is super important to their parents and doctors recommending cannabis as a medicinal option.
Make sure you grind the cannabis buds up as fine as possible (above I speak about getting and using a coffee grinder) and pick out any stick left, they can sometimes aggravate people with sensitive stomachs.
Take a ball jar, I like a 8 oz one. (use can use larger or smaller depending on your batch)
add the oil, glycerin and finely ground cannabis to the ball jar with a tight lid.
Have a pot with 5 inches of hot water, place the ball jar in the water bath and cook on a med heat for 15-20 minutes, then reduce the temperature to low or #1 setting on your stove and cook down over 10.5 hours. This can be done in your oven especially if making several ball jars of it at one time. bake on lowest temp. 170/175 and bake for 6-8 hours, its done when liquids are gone and it's now a paste consistency. I have empty capsules that I buy at the health  food market to keep the paste off my teeth!
Dosing:
I have read you should start with a half a pea size twice a day to begin with. If this is too much, back off if you can tolerate more, take more next time. The articles I read said people work up to 2 grams a day (used throughout the day) if you are using High CBD cannabis you may be able to consume more sooner than later.
So why use this paste?
I am going to try it for two main reasons, that I spoke about earlier.
No nasty chemicals to worry about eating and consuming over long periods of time, even if there is only residual amounts of chemicals left.
But More importantly, I love the fact that I am not getting rid of any of the cannabis bud! it's ground up, made into paste and consumed. This cannabis paste is a new concept, although one I have been dreaming about for years. A product that can be eaten, capped up and swallowed, put on your skin if wanted too and it's the whole bud! Nothing is stripped away! All THC and vital Cannabinoids are in the paste, ready to help your body with it's benefits.
Are you still a little confused?
It's understandable! Really, it is mind boggling to me, how much cannabis products have grown and changed just in the last 5 years. So it basically is this... Have you been reading it is all about the RSO! for everything, it cure cancer, and illness. It helps with pain and PTSD. YES! it's does, but it can be SUPER DANGEROUS! made with some serious chemicals.. SO this PASTE!! is another options, that cannabis historians say has been made for thousands of years! They would take cannabis in clay pots heat it slowly in the hot sun for long periods of time, they added essential oils of their times.
So for me!!! I am think why change something that worked for 2000+ years!
So if you have chronic pain, nausea, cancer, MS, PTSD, muscle spasm and all the issues that cannabis helps!!! Why not make up a batch of cannabis paste and start eating it?
I know as soon as my 10.5 hours is up, I will be!
HAPPY CANNABIS PASTING
any questions?? Don't hesitate to let me know!

and BLESS OUR MIRICLE PLANT

The Power of RAW Cannabis.

It's all about cannabis vaping!!!

I never thought I would say, that I would smoke my cannabis any longer. But, today it's pretty much 100% true. I honestly vaporize aka vape, most of my cannabis these days.
We live a new world people, were you can use a vape pen that looks like an e-cig and only get your cannabis. It is clean, it's smooth. You don't smell of cannabis, and a little of the concentrate cannabis vapors go a long way. Look around, people are using them everywhere. It may be an e-cig but, in the cannabis community, our vape pens are the latest and the greatest of today.
So what do I mean? Most here are some pictures below of a variety of different vaporizers. They vary in cost, size, portability. It depends on how much you are going to use it, and what you want to put into your vaporizer. The benefit of vaping is that you are not burning the plant matter that you would when you smoke. With vaping you only burn of the cannabinoids that you body needs, leaving the plant matter behind, or in concentrated cannabis, cannabis is the only thing left to vape.
Why vape? It's so clean, it is easy on your lungs and a little seems to go a long way. I find I can use less cannabis when I am vaping. Especially with my concentrated vape pens that contain cannabis liquid that is very high in THC, so a little goes a long way. I love how discrete my vape pen is, and that I don't smell of cannabis, outing myself to the world of non cannabis users.  I can take one or two puffs and I am set, ready to take on the world! Ready to clear my nausea so I can eat, and I love that I don't cough like I use to. I sometimes feel the condensation on the pack of my throat from my vape pen, but I don't cough up that yucky flam that I use to.
So the question for New Vaporizing people is what kind do I want?
Well, first off are you set in your mind that you want to use the cannabis flower, and then burn off only the cannabinoids and trichomes? Or are You open to trying some concentrated cannabis?
What is the real difference? Vaporizers that are mainly for dried cannabis flower are not so discrete looking. See below the first picture and imagine using one of those out in public, some of them I wouldn't feel comfortable. So I use an vape pen which looks a lot like the new e-cig's and no one can really tell what you are using. In the second picture you can see the greatest of the greatest vaporizers in my opinion (they from from$500-$700) and are amazing for a home system. Taking that with you outside of your home to medicate might be tricky, but boy does it work well. It's super clean, I loved the way it made my aches and pains go away with still giving me some antidepressant boost.
My vape pen looks like an e-cig and because it has no cannabis smell, I like it best. There are several kinds on the market, in dispensaries in California. Our dispensary carries cartridges that are filled with the concentrated cannabis oil and you attach the cartridge to a battery and you are ready to vape. You don't have fill it, make a mess or bother with loading a vape pen, with a disposable cartridge. Yes, they cost a little more money because someone loads it for you and you throw it away when it empty. I also like to use the vape globe, or vape coils that you add your concentrated cannabis to the pen yourself and then you can change the strains of medicines you like to use.
This new wave of vaporizing is astonishing. Everyday, someone comes in with a new style, new special gadget, or new way vaporizer. Someone have compared the Cannabis product business's growth to larger than the cell phone industry.
You can go to your local head shop and ask questions about their e-cig "that you will be putting a thicker liquid in" (they should get it) or in some states talking more openly about cannabis and vape pens are not such a taboo. So go at it with caution and see how the cashier acts towards the questions you ask. If in California, and at the many cannabis events we host, this is a great place to check out and ask all kinds of questions about vaporizing and which one is going to be best for you.
I've been vaping almost exclusively for almost a year now, I no longer cough up that yucky dark flume like I use to. I love vaporizing and I suggest that people who love using cannabis, give vaporizers and vape pens a try.
One last point on vaping, if you are a long time cannabis smoker, and like the way the smoke fills your lungs and love the exhale, some patients say they can't get use to the light vapors and miss the smoke. I felt this way too, when I first started. So in closing I say this, don't go buy an expensive vaporizer or vape pen until you know you love it.  Our dispensary has disposable vape pens which give patients a great chance for an inexpensive price to try out a vape pen and when the battery dies and or the cannabis oil is used up, you through it away. I encourage my patients to try the disposable vape pens before investing in a whole vape set up.

I am a whole plant cannabis theorist!

What does a whole plant cannabis theorist mean? It is quiet simple actually, I believe it taking using the whole plant to get the most benefits from the cannabis plant. That means, making raw cannabis juiceor dehydrated shade leaves (I like tamari flavored) to using the cannabis flower fresh and dried for tinctures, to vaporize. To dry and smoke, and then also used dried flowers to make the many other products I like to use and teach others to use as well. Down to the roots where you can dry and chew on, or dry and then use for capsules (roots tend to be woody and low THC) but to be a whole plant theorist in my mind, every part of the cannabis plant should and needs to be used.
Another aspect of the whole plant cannabis theory is that I don't believe people should keep trying to isolate specific compounds and or cannabinoids to use that one part to fix a specific illness. I believe whole plant in different strains or bread to have different cannabinoids, compounds and even terpines, will help specific problems that people suffer from. I believe we have already been given this special plant and so just learning which strain work best for your issues, and understanding that most patients using cannabis learn to use a variety of strains at different times for different purposes.
If this is confusing lets ask you this? Do you just have one issue wrong with you? Of would you say you suffer from a variety of aliments? I myself have had migraines since age 6, and still do today. I have other chronic pain conditions from different injuries and the older I get the more I seem to be bothered by them. It's age, but using the right strain of cannabis can help relieve my pain, my muscle spasms. It help relax my nausea and allows me to eat. It can relax my depression and anxiety too. all with one plant cannabis. Yes, I change how I may use the cannabis: where I may vape it, eat it, rub it on some sore muscles, drink the raw leaves (High in CBD) to decrease inflammation. Over the years I have learned the more I am willing to use cannabis, and in different ways, the better I feel. For me it is definitely isn't about smoking a fatty ( it can be sometimes) but 90% of my cannabis use has to do for a reason. Yes, getting out of my PTSD stressed out mind, might be one reason, but it works. Cannabis has no history of killing anyone from overdose, so I feel comfortable trying out different ways to use cannabis to help me and others.
I have blogged and always will blog on how much I love cannabis dispensaries, their workers and especially at our dispensary how much we try and educate our patients on the benefits of cannabis and the varieties of ways to use it. There is another part of using cannabis though,  it can be very expensive. I am hopeful that in years to come the more legal it becomes the cheaper it is, but from what I have seen in the newly legal states of Colorado, and Washington cannabis is taxed at such a high rate that using if for a medicine can be very costly. Yes, they do have medicinal dispensaries there too, but the dispensaries have to mark up the products they sell to pay for all their own business expenses. So learning to make your own medicine and even grow your own medicine can be the best way to use cannabis on a regular and continual basis.
So if You already have been using cannabis and have been trying different strains, I really encourage you to keep a journal on the name of the strain, is it an indica or sativa and or hybrid ( both strains combined) what aliments did it help you with. How long did it last before you had to use again. How well did it work (on a scale of 1-10 ten being most helpful) and how did you inject it?
You will be seeing more and more artilces, and television shows on cannabis and hearing a lot about the cannabinoid CBD, many people and scientist are working to isolate that specific cannabinoid so use cannabis without getting someone HIGH, especially children. I get this and understand that, but also have seen strains grown with 15 % CBD and .7%  THC (not even 1%) and I know there are many doctors still very concerned about getting our children high, and not understanding the long term studies of using cannabis. But the parents that I see who are choosing cannabis, it wanst there first options, honestly it was one of if not their last choice. The drugs that doctors are giving there children who have a variety of diseases and illnesses that are not only debilitating them but drugs that can possibly kill them. But cannabis is still one of their last choices, and I do understand that. So often parents believe they need the CBD Only medicine to help their child. Please go into the aricieve of this blog and read the article by the cannadad who blogs about his daughter brave Mykayla. who was using cannabis in a variety of form during her bouts of chemotherapy. She was known my many as the "healthiest chemothery patient" doctors have seen. Her parents decided to give Mykayla cannabis in a variety of forms. from tinctures, and RSO (rick Simpson oil) to cannabis infused treats that she could ask for. I watched videos and read articles on her progress and she really did well on cannabis, not just CBD only, but THC as well. When parents are faced with losing their child they will go any lengths to keep them alive. After watching a variety of children on Dr. Gutpa's "weeds" #1, #2 and #3, you can witness children who reduce their seizures by incredible numbers, but for the most chronic patients, these children can build up a tolerance to the CBDs and sometime their incredible results start to diminish. I questions is it that they are only getting CBD cannabinoids?
For whole plant theorist we believe it cannabis medicine requires the whole plant to give the most benefits to patients. Yes, I have read the studies that support the theory that children who use to much cannabis as a young age (juveniles) who had long term use of cannabis, showed results were some studied had increased schizophrenic results, that they linked with cannabis. But that was one study, and I do understand the concern. However, If I had a child of was having daily seizures, you bet I would try cannabis and Not just CBD! I believe in the whole plant of cannabis helping people, I see it stop seizures during an episode. I believe once we are allowed to study and  learn more about specific cannabinoids and cannabis as a whole plant, then we can understand if there are any serious issues we should be concerned with giving cannabis to our children for severe illness
You will continue to hear, read, talk about the newest big thing in cannabis "CBD" and it's benefits, Yes they have amazing benefits, but their are over 100 cannabinoids to date, and I just wonder what else can we benefit from those cannabinoids too?
I still believe as we study cannabis, we will go through a mirage of  "this being the best part of cannabinoids" and "this one is the cure", I am a whole plant cannabis theorist, I believe we will always need the full plants, all parts of the miracle cannabis to truly receive it full benefits.

How to Make Cannabis Whole Plant Resin

The cannabis can generation

Today is May 2015 and the first entry of this New Blog, the Cannabis can generation!
Not just five years ago, I did not think still that I  get would see cannabis become legal in my lifetime. Today, I am sure of it! Not just legal in my home state of California, but throughout the US and the world in my lifetime. It's is an amazing brave new world when it comes to cannabis, where everyday there is a newly invented "next best thing." I am so in awe of how we choose to use our cannabis it is far from smoking a fat joint anymore. Today, we can vaporize, dab, eat, rub, drink, our cannabis. I do think that there will always be people whole love to light up a joint, or smoke from their bong, but more and more our new cannabis generation, people are using alternative ways to use their cannabis or in my world our medicine.
My goal is to make this blog a creative a place where people who are new to cannabis or not, can have a site to come and find the information on the cannabis subject they want to know about. This will take me sometime (I am sure) but, I plan to blog on as many topics on cannabis I can. And please comment and write me and tell me what you want me to blog about next. If I don't know the info, I will research it and share the info that I find. So please know that not all posting will be my own, but I will promise to give full create to any blog article I post here in The cannabis can generation blog site!
A little about myself and why I want to write about cannabis. Hi! I am Leanne and a legal medical cannabis patient in California since 2003. I have been blessed to be able to grow my own medicine with my partner for the last decade. And in 2009 I got the best job on the planet, a dispensary front office position, and then not much later I became a budtender. My job also sent me to Oaksterdame University for a course in cannabis education. I remain at the same dispensary today, 6 + years later. Still loving what I do.
There are two things that I believe working at the dispensary has taught me most. First, is that cannabis is a medicine, I work with patient everyday I work, and I swear with all my heart that cannabis helps so many people get relief from their person issue. And secondly, how cannabis can be  used. And used variety of ways so patients have many options on how to use their medicine.
The days of just teaching a person about what kind of medicine do you want "Indica or Sativa" are long gone, and today I feel we are truly able to have access to a grange of cannabis products to fit specific issues.
So, my plans are to take all the knowledge and information that I try to give patients to you here!
I want to share, teach, inform people about the benefits of cannabis, and how they can make their own medicine. Don't get me wrong I love our dispensary. I believe California and having dispensaries are the best way to give patients to a variety of cannabis products.
I want a place where I can blog, and teach people about everything I can about  cannabis. Two + years ago, I started a blog on raw cannabis juicing. I challenged myself and blogged about the benefits of raw cannabis juicing for a 40 raw cannabis juice challenge.40dayrawcannabisjuicechallenge.blogspot.com
I will be adding articles from that blog, to this one as part of putting all the cannabis information I can here!
Cannabis is medicinally legal in over 23 states in the US now, and is legal in 4 states as of last years election. I now know I will see cannabis legal throughout the US in my lifetime. While It's still remains illegal today, and my blogging isn't allowed advertising rights like other blog sites, I pray that with my writings and hard work, one day this Blog will be something! Mean something, and have the rights to advertising money like all other bloggers! I am not selling anything, I am only writing about the benefits of Cannabis, and the many ways to use it.
I see everyday in this industry that someone is coming up with a new idea, new way of using cannabis. It is incredible on how quickly our industry is changing, and growing. I have people I know who have said to me " So you don't mind selling Pot to kids?" I always feel so puzzled by this question. My answer, " I see very little if every kids, and not even many young adults. The biggest growth of patients in my view is the AARP crowd. Yes! our older generation. They come in not wanting to use their prescribe medications, and want to see if cannabis can relieve their symptoms without all the horrible side affects that other pharmaceuticals cause them.
As I state above, we are blessed in California that we have fully stocked dispensaries, with knowledgeable staff to help educate patients. We literally teach people the best ways for them to use cannabis. Yes, unfortunately it is still trial and error for most patients. There isn't  one set dose, or instruction, or even on set recommendation on how exactly to use cannabis for your specific issue. Most patients, including myself have learned by trials of smoking cannabis, to eating it, to using it topically and more. What works best for me, may not work best for you. I believe even when cannabis becomes fully legal in the US, we still will have individual ways we like to use cannabis.
As California moves closer and closer to 2016  (where we will legalize cannabis in California once and for all) many people are not waiting for legalization and we  are seeing a growth in medicinal cannabis recommendation. People are encouraged by TV shows on medical cannabis, and they too want to see if cannabis will help them as well. It's actually quiet amazing in my opinion how many people are getting their legal cannabis recommendations and coming and trying cannabis! Our number of new patients continues to increase not decrease.
I understand that not all of you reading this are blessed like me. Even many of you cannot have access to cannabis at all. I promise you it is coming. Fight for it! Keep reading, keep talking to others about it. Ask questions! and YES! Try cannabis if you can.
I will have articles on ways to use cannabis to get the medicinal benefits with out the HIGH!
I will write articles on cannabis and the best way to get HIGH!
Please Join my blog, come back read my articles, and share them with other people!
